HÀ NỘI — The National Age Groups Taekwondo Championship – CJ 2024 will be held from August 15-22 at the Tiền Giang Province Gymnasium.
The annual tournament will feature more than a thousand athletes, coaches, and officials from 44 cities and provinces nationwide.
Competitors will compete in four age groups: U12, 12-14, 15-17, and 18-20 in both kyorugi (combat) and poomsae (performance) disciplines.
Among potential title favourites are 2022 Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships silver medalist Nguyễn Thị Loan and bronze medalists Nguyễn Thị Mai and Trần Trịnh Trọng, 2023 Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships bronze holder Bùi Văn Đại and Nguyễn Thị Thùy Linh, winner of the 2023 Southeast Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships.
Outstanding athletes from the tournament will be selected for the national squad to compete in the World Taekwondo Junior Championships in October in South Korea.
This year, the championship continues receiving sponsorship from the CJ Group, a leading multi-industry economic group in South Korea. CJ has invested in Việt Nam in many fields, including culture and sports including directly in taekwondo.
Recently, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MoCST) Hoàng Đạo Cương worked with a CJ delegation led by Chang Bok Sang, Chairman and General Director of the group, discussing strategies and solutions to develop high-achieving taekwondo in Việt Nam.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Cương affirmed that the cooperation of the two sides over the past 20 years has already helped promote the Vietnamese culture, sports, and tourism industry, especially in sports, and the development of taekwondo is a strong proof of this.
