HCM CITY — The first Thủ Đức Open 2024 tennis tournament is ongoing in HCM City featuring nearly 400 amateur and professional athletes from across Việt Nam.

Famed players such as national team champion Nguyễn Quang Vinh and bronze medallist Trần Tiến Thịnh are among participants.

Players will compete in the mixed doubles 1250, the men's doubles 1750 and 2000, the men's doubles of civil servants and men's doubles of leaders at the indoor tennis courts in the Global City Project Campus in Thủ Đức.

The finals are scheduled for August 17.

The event, held by the Thủ Đức City's People's Committee and Nexus Sport Events in cooperation with the HCM City Tennis-Pickleball Federation, will award a total bonus of VNĐ300 million (US$12,000) to the high-ranked players.

The tournament, sponsored by Masterise Group, is one of the activities to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day (September 2, 1945-2024), August Revolution (August 19, 1945-2024) and 79th anniversary of traditional day of the State administrative agencies (Culture and Information, Office, Finance, Justice, Personnel Organisation Office).

Organisers said the competition is expected to promote a healthy community and push the development of tennis and pickleball among people especially State workers and company staff. VNS
