QUẢNG NAM — Young golfing talent Nguyễn Anh Minh took the lead after the first round of the Việt Nam Amateur Open (VAO) on June 27 in Quảng Nam Province.
The 17-year-old scored four birdies in the front nine and one in the back nine, to top the ranking with 5-under-par 67.
National champion Nguyễn Đức Sơn also had a good performance with an eagle in the second hole before he made a bogey in the next hole, along with three birdies to finish in the second position with 4-under-par 68.
Joining him in the second was Lê Khánh Hưng who pocketed five birdies in the first 10 holes and maintained his even par in almost of the rest holes.
Malaysian Nateeshvar Ganesh was at third with a 3-under-par 69 score.

In the women's tournament, the Việt Nam Lady Amateur Open (VLAO), Ng Yu Xuan of Malaysia and Đoàn Xuân Khuê Minh of Việt Nam shared the top place with 1-under-par 71. They are only two among 20 athletes could score under-par point.
Vietnamese Nguyễn Viết Gia Hân was close behind with a even-par 72 result.
The VAO will see players compete in four rounds of 18 holes until June 30 at the Vinpearl Golf Nam Hội An. Meanwhile the women will tee off in three rounds.
With the theme of spreading the message ' Swing to the Future' organisers want to encourge participants, especially young golfers, to develop themselves and dare to face challenges to be able to go further in their careers. VNS
