HÀ NỘI — Heavy rain didn't stop Việt Nam from beating Singapore 5-0 in Group B of the AFF U19 Women’s Championship 2023 on July 6 in Palembang, Indonesia.

Việt Nam was considered one of the stronger teams and they proved their power soon after the first whistle.

Lưu Hoàng Vân scored twice in the seventh and 17th minutes. Nguyễn Minh Chuyên and Hồ Thị Thanh Thảo also netted one each between them.

Lê Thị Bảo Trâm wrapped up the win for Việt Nam at the 65th minute from a penalty.

In the meantime, Thailand picked up their first win in Group C with a 6-0 demolition of the Philippines.

Earlier, host Indonesia earned a whopping 7-0 win against Timor Leste in Group A at Gelora Sriwijaya while Cambodia picked up a 2-1 win over Laos.

Việt Nam will play Malaysia on July 10 in the second round.

The regional championship saw the participation of 10 teams divided into three groups. The top team of each group and the second-place squad will advance to the semi-finals.

Last year, Việt Nam finished second after losing 0-2 to Australia in the final match.  VNS
