HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam won four gold medals at the Chinese Taipei Athletics Open 2023, which closed on May 28 in New Taipei City.

Phạm Thị Huệ took her title in the women's 5,000m. The former SEA Games champion finished her race in a time of 17min 44.07sec.

Nguyễn Thị Huyền was champion in the women's 400m hurdles after winning in 58sec. The SEA Games multi-time winner needed not much effort to leave all other rivals behind to cross the finish line first.

Nguyễn Thị Hằng won in the women's 400m, clocking in at 53.75sec. At the May Games, she claimed a bronze at 53.84sec.

Lương Đức Phước triumphed in the men's 1,500m. His time of 3min 55.38sec was better than what he did at the 32nd SEA Games where he secured a silver.

The team also earned one silver in the men's 4x400m relay and two bronzes in the women's high jump and men's 200m.

Việt Nam took part in the two-day competition with 13 athletes. Runner Nguyễn Thị Oanh registered to join the event but she withdrew at the last minute.

The Taiwan tournament is one of the activities of Vietnamese athletes who are preparing for the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in September in the Chinese mainland.

Their next event will be the Asian championship in mid-July in Thailand.

They will later have training camps in Japan and China before participating at the Hangzhou ASIAD.  VNS
