HÀ NỘI — The men’s national football team will play a friendly against China’s Hong Kong on June 15, the Việt Nam Football Federation (VFF) announced.
The match is scheduled to take place at Lạch Tray Stadium in the northern city of Hải Phòng.
Hong Kong team are currently ranked 147 in the world, while Việt Nam are 96th. In the last two meetings in 2014 and 2016, Việt Nam won.
The match will help prepare Việt Nam for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The match against Hong Kong is the first international match this year for Việt Nam since the finals of the AFF Cup 2022.
Việt Nam are scheduled to play World Cup qualifiers on November 13 and November 21. The team will gather together on June 7 after the 11th round of the V.League 1 concludes.
Coach Philippe Troussier will have more time to select his team based on their performances in the national league.
The French coach recently returned from Cambodia with the Vietnamese U22 team. He guided the young team to take a bronze medal in men’s football at the SEA Games 32. VNS
