HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam will send five fighters to compete in the World Taekwondo Championship later this week in Azerbaijan.
The 26th edition takes place from May 29 to June 4 in Baku, and will celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of the World Taekwondo Federation.
There are seven weight categories for men ranging from 54kg to 87kg and seven for women from 46kg to 73kg.
Viet Nam's Trương Thị Kim Tuyền will compete in the women's 49kg division, Trần Thị Ánh Tuyết will take part in the women's 62kg, Bạc Thị Khiêm will fight in the women's 67kg, Trần Thị Ánh Ngân is the representative in the women's 73kg and Phạm Minh Bảo Kha is in the men's 80kg.
Among the competitors, Tuyền is expected to earn a high result. The Olympian just won a silver at the 32nd SEA Games. She took a gold at the Asian championship in 2021 and qualified for the Tokyo Games in 2022.
At last year's event, Tuyền advanced to the final round of 16.
Following the rules of World Taekwondo, athletes will receive points based on their results in this championship, and their overall points will be considered for their Olympic qualification. VNS
