HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam are in an easy pool at the 2022 Davis Cup's Asia/Oceania Group III after a draw held on August 9 in Tây Ninh Province.

The hosts are ranked world 69 in the world and will play Syria (No 80), Jordan (No 93) and Malaysia (No 95) in Pool A.

Pool B gathers Pacific Oceania (No 74), Saudi Arabia (No 86), Iran (No 87) and the UAE (No 96).

Their matches will be held from August 10-13 at the Hải Đăng Tennis Club in Tây Ninh Province, Việt Nam.

The three best nations will be promoted to the World Group II Play-offs, while the two worst will be relegated to Asia/Oceania Group IV.

"We worried about Syria because they are home to strong players. However, this year, all of them are absent. It means that our chance to advance to the next round is much higher," said captain Trần Quốc Phong of Việt Nam.

Phong has picked the best players -- Lý Hoàng Nam, Lê Quốc Khánh, Phạm Minh Tuấn, Trịnh Linh Giang, Nguyễn Văn Phương -- for this tournament. They are experienced and really understand each other after years of training and competing together.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Oceania representative appreciates Việt Nam, led by world No 344 Nam, who just won a gold from the 31st SEA Games in May and a title at the M15 Kuala Lumpur last month.

He hoped Pacific Oceania might play the hosts in the play-off round. VNS
