Muay fighters advance to finals

HÀ NỘI — Nuramisha Binti Azrilrizal of Malaysia on May 20 beat Soeng Moruy of Cambodia in the women's 51kg category to advance to the gold medal match.

She will fight Wansawang Srila-or of Thailand, who defeated Vietnamese Triệu Thị Phương Thúy in another semi-final at the Vĩnh Phúc Province's Sports Centre.

In the men's 54kg, Việt Nam's Huỳnh Hoàng Phi beat Sakchai Chamchit from Thailand to put name in the final on May 21.

His opponent will be Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Bin Rakib from Malaysia, who beat Ariel Lee Lampacan of the Philippines.

In the men's 81kg, Trương Quốc Hùng of the hosts outclassed Cambodian Samnag Rum for a berth in the final.

The most expected match of the day was between eight-time world champion Nguyễn Trần Duy Nhất of Việt Nam and his Philippine rival Fritz Bigagtan Carmaje in the men's 60kg class.

His next fight is against Chonlawit Preedasak of Thailand, who beat Bora Khun of Cambodia in the first semi-final.

Muay is organised from May 17 to May 22, finishing one day before the closing ceremony.

To date, only the waikru (performance) title has been awarded, to the Philippines.

All combat finals will be held on May 22.

Việt Nam are competing in 11 categories for both men and women.

High hopes are on former world champion Bùi Yến Ly (women's 51kg), reigning world youth champion Huỳnh Hà Hữu Hiếu (women's 48kg) and Nhất who has not won any SEA Games titles after four editions although he is world-class. His best result was silver in the SEA Games 25.

In the previous Games in the Philippines, the Vietnamese team pocketed one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. — VNS
