HCM CITY – HCM City has received two more trains for its metro route No 1 between Bến Thành and Suối Tiên, scheduled to begin commercial operations next year, making for a total of three so far.
The six carriages meant for the two trains arrived on Monday morning at a port in District 4 after leaving Japan on May 1.
One three-coach train each will be transported on Tuesday morning to Long Bình Depot in Thủ Đức City by road, and the other will be transported on Thursday.
The city plans to import 17 trains with either three or six coaches.
The three trains will be tested together with all other systems such as power, signal and tracks.
A few years ago a life-size model of a metro train was designed and built in Japan and shipped to HCM City to be exhibited at Long Bình Depot to gather feedback from the public, and the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCM City (MAUR) finalised the train’s design based on it.
Hitachi manufactured and put the trains together in Japan, and shipped the first train last October.
HCM City will get one more each in June and July.
The VNĐ43.757 trillion (US$1.9 billion) route from Bến Thành Market in District 1 and Suối Tiên Theme Park in District 9 is 19.7km long and will have 14 stations.
Each train with three coaches is 61.5m long and three metres wide, can travel at a maximum of 110km/h and carry 930 passengers.
More than 84 per cent of the work has been completed. – VNS
