Seventy-eight cases confirmed Saturday evening, including 65 community infections

Việt Nam reported a record number of new COVID-19 infections in a day since the country's fourth wave of COVID-19.

HÀ NỘI —  Việt Nam reported a record number of new COVID-19 infections in a day since the country's fourth wave of COVID-19. Seventy-eight cases were confirmed by the Ministry of Health, including 65 community cases and 13 imported.

The new local transmissions include one in Quảng Ninh, three in Hưng Yên, 22 cases in Hà Nội, one in Hải Dương, 17 in Bắc Ninh, one in Thái Bình, seven in Vĩnh Phúc, one in Hải Phòng, one in Huế, eight in Đà Nẵng, one in Nam Định, one in Quảng Nam and one in Bắc Giang.

The branch of the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hà Nội’s Đông Anh District reported 14 cases, including ten caregivers and four patients.

New cases in Quảng Ninh, Bắc Giang, Thái Bình and Hải Phòng were looking after patients at the Tân Triều branch of the National Cancer Hospital.

Cases in Hà Nội were reported to have been receiving treatment or looking after other patients at the Đông Anh branch of the tropical diseases hospital.

Among new cases in Vĩnh Phúc Province is a 31-year-old Chinese woman who had close contact with an earlier confirmed case – a Chinese expert who was quarantined in Yên Bái Province.

The case in Thừa Thiên Huế submitted a health declaration after returning from Đà Nẵng. The case in Quảng Nam was also linked to the Đà Nẵng outbreak.

Đà Nẵng City reported new cases that were people in close contact with earlier confirmed cases.

As of Saturday evening, the country’s caseload is 3,230, including 1,811 domestically-transmitted cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

There have been 241 cases since the latest outbreak hit the country on April 27.

As many as 42 patients were given the all-clear on Saturday evening, raising the total recoveries to 2,602. The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 35 deaths in Việt Nam so far.

On Friday evening, Việt Nam reported the first death after an adverse reaction to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine – a 35-year-old female medical worker in the southern province of An Giang. She received a dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine a day earlier. VNS
