BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province has said it wants to complete 10 key projects in the next five years to enhance connectivity within the southern key economic region.
It has planned to speed up work on two of them: the Phước An Bridge and the Biên Hòa - Vũng Tàu Expressway.
The bridge will be 4.3km long, run between the province’s Cái Mép - Thị Vải and Phước An ports, and cost an estimated VNĐ4.879 trillion (US$212 million).
The provincial People's Committee said the bridge would help effectively utilise the port network, the Cái Mép Hạ logistics centre, industrial zones along the sides of the road, and many other projects in the area.
The four-lane Biên Hoà - Vũng Tàu Expressway will run 77.8km and be constructed in two phases.
The first, measuring 46.8km, will run between the province’s Phú Mỹ Town and Biên Hòa City in Đồng Nai Province.
The second will link Phú Mỹ with Vũng Tàu City.
It is expected to cost more than VNĐ20 trillion ($825.7 million), and the province has so far got commitments for more than VNĐ12 trillion (US$521 million) from private investors.
The rest will come from the two provinces, VNĐ5.57 trillion (US$242 million) in the form of land compensation from Đồng Nai Province and VNĐ2.95 trillion (US$127.93 million) for machinery and construction items from Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu.
The 9.73km Road 991B is another important project.
To cost more than VNĐ4 trillion (US$173.7 million), it will link National Highway No.51 with Cái Mép Port, and was approved by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc five years ago.
It includes four bridges, including a flyover on the national highway. The others are Rạch Tre, Rạch Ông and Mỏ Nhát bridges.
The 86.6ha Cái Mép Hạ Container Port will be developed at a cost of more than VNĐ10 trillion (US$434.4)
The deep-water port will have a length of 1,200m, and can berth container ships of up to 200,000 tonnes when completed.
It will have a great influence on the Cái Mép - Thị Vải port system, socio-economic development, national defense and security of the province.
The 1,795ha Tây Nam Urban Area, which is expected to have a maximum population of 45,000 people, is located in a strategic location for an eco-city.
