BÌNH DƯƠNG — The southern province of Bình Dương has approved construction of a new sluice gate worth more than VNĐ200 billion (US$8.63 million) in Thuận An City.
The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and other agencies are completing procedures quickly so that construction work can start soon.
The new sluice gate is expected to prevent flooding and inundation caused by high tides and water discharge of the Dầu Tiếng irrigation reservoir.
It will supply water for agricultural production and protect technical infrastructure as well as residential areas on 540ha in Thuận An City’s Bình Nhâm Ward.
The sluice gate will help release excess rainwater from the 1,596ha basin of the Chòm Sao-Suối Đờn water drainage project, which started construction in 2011 and is expected to be completed by the year end.
The project will be connected with a route along the Sài Gòn River.
The province has made efforts to minimise flood-prone spots in Thuận An City during the rainy season. It has taken steps steps to speed up the progress of major water drainage projects in the province, with the aim of limiting economic damages caused by flooding. — VNS
