HCM CITY — The HCM City University Medical Centre on Monday launched a telehealth system as part of the Ministry of Health’s project to promote remote examination and treatment for the 2020-2025 period.

Through the telehealth system developed by the Viettel Group, doctors and specialists at the University Medical Centre can deliver virtual examination consultations, image diagnostic consultations, surgical consultations and technology transfer to primary care doctors at provincial-level and district-level hospitals.

Nguyễn Hoàng Bắc, director of the hospital, said the ministry is promoting digital transformation and the adoption of modern information and communication technologies.

The ministry’s remote health examination and treatment project aims to expand access to essential health services for patients and support grassroot health facilities offering medical examination, counselling, diagnostics and training.

The telehealth system will help bridge the gap of medical expertise between central hospitals and district-level hospitals and improve the quality of examination and treatment as well as reduce costs for patients.

Lương Ngọc Khuê, head of the ministry’s Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, said that highly qualified specialists at the University Medical Centre will share their expertise with colleagues at lower level hospitals in an efficient and timely manner through the telehealth system.
