ĐÀ NẴNG — A 37-year-old man from the central province of Quảng Trị has become the 16th person to die of COVID-19-related complications in Việt Nam, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyễn Trường Sơn.
The man was a resident of Hướng Hóa District. He was suffering from type-1 diabetes, exhaustion and heart failure.
On August 8, the patient was admitted to Quảng Trị Hospital for Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and the next day he tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.
On August 10, he was sent to Huế Central Hospital No 2 for isolation and treatment.
On August 11, the patient stopped breathing four times. He was pronounced dead at 10.30am the same day.
The cause of death has been recorded as severe pneumonia caused by COVID-19, type-1 diabetes and heart failure.
Also yesterday, Việt Nam confirmed sixteen new COVID-19 cases, all linked to Đà Nẵng City, raising the country's total count to 863, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
Patients 848 to 856 and 863, aged 14 to 78, are Đà Nẵng residents.
Patients 857 and 860, aged 26-55, are from Quảng Nam Province who were taking care of patients or had contact with confirmed positive cases.
Patients 861 and 862, aged 36 and 66, are from the central province of Quảng Trị. Both of them have had contact with COVID-19 infected cases.
Since July 25, 405 people have tested positive linked to Đà Nẵng.
Of nearly 166,000 people are isolated nationwide, 5,628 are in hospitals, 27,472 in quarantine facilities and the rest at home. — VNS
