Traffic police launch nationwide crackdown

Traffic police nationwide are stepping up inspections to crackdown on people driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

 HÀ NỘI — Traffic police nationwide are stepping up inspections to crackdown on people driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police have identified a number of violation hotspots, like bars, discos, restaurants, ports and bus stations, and will conduct random checks.

Lieutenant Colonel Vũ Anh Điệp, from the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security warned anyone caught driving after drinking or taking drugs would face punishment.

Officers will also carry cameras to record anyone who tries to avoid traffic stops. Multiple offenders will face increased penalties.

Police also said after arrest, they will inform the management of companies where the guilty parties work, to ensure they do not drive after receiving punishment.

More than 3,000 people have died as a result of traffic accidents in the first half of the year, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee. — VNS
