Vietjet brings stranded citizens home from Myanmar

HCM CITY — Vietjet teamed up with the Embassy of Việt Nam in Myanmar and the authorities in the two countries to repatriate 240 Vietnamese citizens from Myanmar. 

"The flight is an exceptional repatriation effort to bring back Vietnamese stranded abroad after the suspension of international flights to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic," the budget carrier said in a statement. 

According to Vietjet, passengers on this special flight were Vietnamese citizens with difficulties and wishing to return, including children, elderly, people with illness and underlying medical conditions, pregnant women, monks and religious group required to go home after the closure of meditation centres, stranded tourists, workers whose working visas or contracts expired and students.

The flight on Thursday also took some Burmese citizens back home on the departing journey from Việt Nam. All passengers received the maximum support in all aspects as well as medical care onboard .

After landing at Đà Nẵng International Airport, all passengers were medically examined and then escorted to mandatory quarantine centres. The aircraft was then disinfected following global standards.

Previously, Vietjet has carried out thousands of flights, evacuating hundreds of thousands of passengers out of the pandemic areas; transporting thousands of tonnes of essentials and medical supplies and equipment in addition to offering free transportation for doctors and medical staff.

A number of non-commercial flights have been operating, many of those are one-way ferry flights bringing Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai and other citizens back home safely.

Vietjet has also operated rescue flights to bring Vietnamese citizens home from India, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan in response to humanity mission and the social responsibility to the people and community.

Vietjet has intensively conducted disease prevention controls and thorough health checks for all passengers and crew before each flight and followed the mandatory requirements for health declarations and face masks.

All Vietjet flights are in alignment with global supreme standards and guidelines from local authorities, the World Health Organisation and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in order to ensure the health and safety of passengers, crew and the community. — VNS
