HÀ NỘI — A Việt Nam National Innovation Centre (NIC) will be built following a decision signed on Wednesday by Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc.

The centre, covering about 23ha in Hòa Lạc Hi-tech Park, will be a public non-business unit under the management of the Planning and Investment Ministry.

It is being established to support and develop the national start-up and innovation ecosystem, contributing to the growth models on the basis of scientific and technology.

Phúc has assigned the ministry to specify the function, task, rights and structure of the centre. The ministry was also instructed to mobilise and manage the use of capital investment for the centre effectively.

The Ministry of Science and Technology was also to co-operate with the management board to finish legal procedures and start construction of the centre.

Phúc has also required the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Planning and Investment to review and issue documents guiding the management and use of investment at the centre. — VNS
