HÀ NỘI — Four people have died after being swept away by strong waves in the central province of Bình Thuận.
According to preliminary reports, a group of 12 visitors from Lâm Đồng Province arrived at a motel on Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street, Hàm Tiến Ward at noon on Thursday
At 3pm on the same day, seven tourists went down to the beach and were swept away by strong waves.
With the help of other foreign tourists, three people were brought to shore and taken to the hospital for treatment.
Border guard soldiers and Bình Thuận Police have been mobilised to search for the four missing people.
Nguyễn Văn Thông, vice chairman of Phan Thiết City People’s Committee, said the last body was recovered at 23.30pm on Thursday.
The deceased include Nguyễn Thiên Toàn and Nguyễn Bảo Anh who are 18 years old and Nguyễn Thanh Long and Trần Bảo Sơn who are 19 years old. They all reside in Lâm Đồng Province’s Bảo Lộc City.
After completing the legal procedures, the police agency handed over the bodies of the victims to their families for burial.
Two weeks ago, a group of workers from Bình Dương Province were also swept away by strong waves at Đất Lành resort in La Gi Town, about 80km away from Phan Thiết Town. The incident left six people dead, including a rescue worker. — VNS
