HÀ NỘI — A typhoon, internationally named Bailu, with winds of up to 100km per hour, formed near the East Sea on Friday morning.
The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting warned that by 7am on Friday, the typhoon was 450km east of the Philippines’ Luzon Island.
The typhoon, moving north-west at 20km per hour, was predicted to gain strength in the next 24 hours.
In another development, heavy rains with rainfall of 29-66mm hit the north and north-central localities on Thursday night.
The centre said torrential rains with maximum rainfall of 100mm would hit the north and north-central localities on Friday afternoon. Hà Nội will also experience heavy rain with thunderstorms at the same time.— VNS
