HÀ NỘI — The Government has announced a pilot programme under which four major hospitals will have full financial and managerial autonomy. The list includes the multi-field Bạch Mai Hospital, the cancer treatment-specialised K Hospital, the surgery-specialised Viet Duc Hospital in Hà Nội and the the multi-field Chợ Rẫy Hospital in HCM City.

The programme would enable the hospitals to optimise the use of resources to improve the quality of services and invest in modern medical facilities that meets international standards, according to the decree.

In addition, the hospitals had been asked to fulfill their social responsibilities by making sure poor patients still had access to medical care at an affordable price.

The decree introduced boards of management with at least one representative from the Ministry of Health as a member. The boards will function as the decision-making bodies and retain full autonomy on the hospitals’ human resources and development policies. VNS
