HÀ NỘI – A total of 117 traffic accidents were recorded across Việt Nam during six days of the Tết holiday, resulting in 112 deaths and 150 injuries.

On February 7 alone, 32 traffic accidents occurred, claiming 15 lives and causing 40 injuries.

Nguyễn Trọng Thái, Secretariat of the National Traffic Safety Committee, said traffic police in various localities recorded more than 2,030 violations, handing out fines totalling roughly VNĐ985 million (US$42,250) and seizing 424 vehicles.

Thái said the committee received no calls or messages regarding large-scale traffic accidents via the hotline.

Thái said the number of traffic accidents during the six-day holiday had seen a reduction in both deaths and injuries compared to the same period last year. The number of deaths and injuries decreased by 67 and 36, respectively.

Thanks to traffic police in localities that ensured traffic safety and driver awareness, the roads were safer during the holiday season. – VNS
