HONG KONG — Rescuers have been scrambling to locate two crew members of the Vietnamese oil tanker Aulac Fortune, who are still missing after the ship caught on fire on Tuesday, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The fire killed one sailor while another who suffered from burns was hospitalised and is said to be recovering in a local hospital. The rest of the crew are staying in a hotel in Kowloon.
Vietnamese consul Trần Thanh Huân said the Vietnamese General Consulate in Hong Kong was working with local authorities to maintain the rescue efforts. The consulate would also speed up the process to bring the victim’s body home.
The 17,500-tonne oil tanker unloaded its cargo in Guangdong on Sunday and arrived in Hong Kong on Tuesday morning. A series of explosions occurred around 11am. — VNS
