PHÚ YÊN — Test results have confirmed that more than 2,500 chickens and ducks in two farms in Hòa An Commune, Phú Hòa District, central province of Phú Yên died of influenza A (H5N6) virus in the last five days.
Nguyễn Thanh Cảnh, a farmer in Đông Bình Hamlet, Hòa An Commune said 1,700 chickens in his farm died in two days after having influenza symptoms.
On Wednesday morning, more than 700 chickens and 70 ducks at Cảnh’s neighbour’s farm also died with similar symptoms.
Phạm Thị Tứ, an official at the province’s Livestock Production and Animal’s Health said the influenza A(H5N6) virus was very strong and can transfer to humans.
She said local agencies took measures to destroy the ill poultry and control the disease outbreak.
Farmers were instructed to spray chemicals 3km around Cảnh’s farm and vaccinate their poultry, Tứ said. — VNS
