HCM CITY — Fifty four disadvantaged university students in HCM City received scholarships each worth US$350 from the Lotte Foundation at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The awardees are from nine universities.

Lê Trần Hoài Thương of the HCM City University of Food Industry, one of the awardees, said the scholarship was a great motivation for her and the other students to study better.

Huh Sung Kwan, president of the foundation, said: “Based on the comprehensive co-operative relationship between Việt Nam and Korea, Lotte Group wants to discharge its social responsibility.”

Lotte Group also gave the students a chance to intern after graduation at its 18 companies in Việt Nam, he said.

The foundation has so far awarded scholarships worth $1.5 million to nearly 3,000 outstanding students in Việt Nam, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Myanmar, and Pakistan.

It has been granting scholarships annually in Việt Nam since 2008 and has given hundreds so far to students in Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng and Phú Yên. — VNS
