HÀ NỘI — A temporary bridge costing VNĐ4.5 billion (US$193,500) will be built along a section of the Nội Bài – Lào Cai Expressway in the northern mountainous province of Yên Bái following a bridge collapse.
The Ministry of Transport issued the decision on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting attended by the Việt Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC).
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister Nguyễn Văn Công, was held after a petrol tanker crashed into a car on the bridge in the direction on September 5.
The bridge has been temporarily closed causing traffic disruption.
The 265km expressway runs from Hà Nội’s Nội Bài Airport through the provinces of Vĩnh Phúc, Phú Thọ, Yên Bái and Lào Cai.
Since it opened in September 2014, it has reduced travel time from Hà Nội to Lào Cai to 3.5 hours, and eased traffic on national highways 2, 2B, 32C and 70.
The route is part of the infrastructure development project under China’s Kunming-Hà Nội-Hải Phòng Economic Corridor.— VNS
