HÀ NỘI — A total of 83 traffic accidents occurred across the country during the three-day holiday over the National Day (September 2) that ended on Monday, according to a report from the National Traffic Safety Committee.
The accidents killed 46 people and injured 53 others, a decrease of 12 and three compared with the same period last year.
Monday alone witnessed 33 accidents with 14 fatalities and 32 injured victims.
More than 16,700 traffic violators were fined a total of more than VNĐ9 billion (US$400,000).
The committee’s hotline received 98 calls from residents reporting traffic violations, most of which were regarding overcrowding, inflated ticket prices and traffic jams in Hà Nội and HCM City.
The committee had worked with different organisations to resolve these problems, said Nguyễn Trọng Thái from the committee. — VNS
