Medals rain for Vietnamese teams at International Science Olympiads

Vietnamese students won nine medals at the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICO) and the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPO), the Ministry of Education and Training announced yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese students won nine medals at the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (ICO) and the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPO), the Ministry of Education and Training announced yesterday.

The ICO, held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, witnessed great achievements by all four students of Việt Nam team with four medals bagged.  

Phạm Đức Anh, a 12th grader at Hà Nội University of Sciences High School for Gifted Students (HSGS), was the gold medalist.

Nguyễn Văn Chí Nguyên, an 11th grader at Thanh Hoá Province’s Lam Sơn High School for Gifted Students, and Hoàng Thanh Tùng, a 12th grader at Nam Định Province’s Lê Hồng Phong High School for Gifted Students, pocketed silver medals. A bronze medal went to Phan Nhật Duật, a 12th grader at Nghệ An Province’s Phan Bội Châu High School for Gifted Students.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese team also notched an impressive achievement at the IPO held in Portugal from July 21 to 29.

The gold medallists are Nguyễn Ngọc Long, a 12th grader at Lam Sơn High School for Gifted Students and Trần Đức Huy, a 12th grader at Hà Nội – Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students. Nguyễn Xuân Tân, a 11th grader of HSGS and Trịnh Duy Hiếu, a 11th grader at Bắc Giang Province High School for Gifted Students, bagged two silver medals. Nguyễn Văn Thành Lợi, a 12th grader of Bình Phước Province’s Quang Trung High School for Gifted Students, achieved a bronze medal.

This year, IPO attracted the participation of 86 countries and territories.

The Việt Nam team was ranked high for the two gold medals it acquired, after China, India, Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and the US. — VNS
