HCM CITY — Bình Dân Hospital in HCM City on Thursday inaugurated its new urology emergency unit.

Dr Nguyễn Phúc Cẩm Hoàng, deputy director of the hospital, said the unit would help improve treatment by enabling doctors to make timely interventions.

Dr Đỗ Lệnh Hùng, head of the new unit, said patients with urological problems would be admitted 24 hours a day.

It would also offer counselling through its hot line at 0962021771.

According to Hoàng, urethral trauma and urethral stricture could lead to obstructive voiding dysfunction with potentially serious consequences for the entire urinary tract, causing infection.

Hùng said urethral stricture, which refers to a narrowing of the urethra, was a common condition in the country, which, if treated wrongly, caused complications.

Patients faced the risk of severe infection, which reduced the quality of life and work and reproduction, he said.

Bình Dân Hospital treats a large number of patients, especially men, with urethral stricture caused by accidents. —VNS
