HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister cum chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety Trương Hòa Bình ordered the Hà Nội administration on Monday to urgently inspect vehicles labelled as tourist cabs but functioning as coaches to avoid paying tax in the city.

The move comes after a series of articles between March 19 and 26 was published in the Lao Động (Labour) newspaper, reporting that vehicles were found running illegally not only in the inner parts of the city but also at the Nội Bài International Airport. These vehicles, labelled as tourist cabs, could pick up and drop off passengers at many places instead of bus stations.

The newspaper reported that this practice caused an estimated damage of thousands of billions of đồng for the State treasury each year due to tax loss.

Bình ordered the People’s Committee of Hà Nội to strictly deal with any violation and send a report to Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc before April 10.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Transport were also asked to co-operate with the People’s Committee to fix the situation. — VNS
