HCM CITY — The HCM City Public Transport Management and Operation Centre proposes to offer free tickets on buses running to Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport to help ease congestion as Tết (Lunar New Year) draws close.
Trần Chí Trung, head of the centre, made the petition at a meeting with the city’s transport department on Friday.
Trung proposed to charge zero đồng for luxury bus routes No 109 and No 152 connecting the downtown and the airport for 10 heavy-traffic days prior and after Tết.
He also sought the airport’s approval to open two bus routes starting from Chợ Lớn Bus Station and Miền Đông Bus Station to the airport during the days.
The transport department expects the number of passengers passing through the airport this Tết holiday to increase 25 per cent compared to last Tết.
Thanks to the recent opening of the two bridges of the N-shaped flyover at the Nguyễn Thái Sơn-Nguyễn Kiệm roundabout in Gò Vấp District, traffic congestion near the airport has been reduced.
To ensure traffic safety and order during the holiday season, local authorities at Tân Bình, Gò Vấp and Phú Nhuận districts have been instructed to stop people from conducting business on roadsides and sidewalks, especially on the streets near the airport and Gia Định Park. — VNS
