HÀ NỘI — The biggest national holiday – Tết or the Lunar New Year – will officially begin on February 14 and continue until February 20, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc announced on Friday.
Chairing a Government meeting on the holiday schedule of Government workers, PM Phúc agreed with the previous proposal of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, according to which workers will have seven days off for the upcoming New Year holidays.
The labour law regulates that workers can only take five days off for Tết. However, as two Tết days next year fall on the weekend, which are already off, the labour ministry suggested extending the official holiday by another two days.
Governmental organisations and agencies that do not have a regular weekend policy will adjust their holiday schedule themselves, Phúc said.
Phúc also decided on the holiday schedule for Independence Day during Friday’s meeting. Accordingly, people will have two days off – on September 2 and 3. — VNS
