BÌNH DƯƠNG – The Bình Dương Province Trade Union opened its first cultural and sports centre for workers in Thuận An town’s An Phú Ward on Tuesday (October 10).

The facility cost VNĐ62 billion (US$2.73 million) and includes multi-purpose sports hall, a conference room and others.

The province Confederation of Labour has sought more funds from the Bình Dương People’s Committee to build more such cultural centres in Bến Cát, Tân Uyên and Dĩ An towns and Bàu Bàng District.

The south-eastern province has around 28 industrial parks and 10 industrial clusters with more than a million workers, according to its People’s Committee.

Most of the workers are young people from rural areas elsewhere who have immigrated to earn a living.

Trần Thanh Liêm, chairman of the People’s Committee, said: “Taking care of them is one of our most important duties.”

Nguyễn Tấn Mạnh, a worker at the Việt Nam – Singapore Industrial Park, said: “A lot of workers look forward to this centre so that we have a place to hang out and exercise as opposed to drinking.” – VNS
