BÌNH DƯƠNG – Bình Dương Province authorities on Monday fined Việt Hương 2 Industrial Park VNĐ1.96 billion (US$86,300) for discharging untreated wastewater into the Sài Gòn River.

A team of inspectors from various agencies discovered that the 250ha IP in Bến Cát town has been releasing more than 4,400 cubic metres of wastewater daily into the river.

A test of the wastewater found its pollutant levels to be 1.5 – 2.8 times the permissible limit.

The inspectors found the IP’s wastewater treatment system was not working at normal capacity due to lack of maintenance.

Pollution in that stretch of the Sài Gòn River affects not only Bình Dương but also HCM City situated further downstream. – VNS
