To ensure traffic safety during ASEAN’s 50 anniversary celebration being marked today, (August 8), HCM City has announced a vehicle ban on certain downtown streets.

HCM CITY — To ensure traffic safety during ASEAN’s 50 anniversary celebration being marked today, HCM City has announced a vehicle ban on certain downtown streets.

Between 6am and 8am no vehicles will be allowed in several places in districts 1 and 4, including the sections of Tôn Đức Thắng Street from Đồng Khởi Street to Khánh Hội Bridge, Nguyễn Tất Thành Street from Hoàng Diệu Street to Khánh Hội Bridge, and Võ Văn Kiệt Street from Hồ Tùng Mậu Street to Tôn Đức Thắng Street.

To go from District 1 to District 4 during the restricted hours, people are requested to take Tôn Đức Thắng → Công Trường Mê Linh → Hai Bà Trưng → Lê Thánh Tôn, Nguyễn Du → Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa → Nguyễn Thái Bình or Nguyễn Công Trứ → Calmette Street → Calmette Bridge → Đoàn Văn Bơ → Hoàng Diệu → Nguyễn Tất Thành.

In the reverse direction, they can take Nguyễn Tất Thành Street → Hoàng Diệu → Đoàn Văn Bơ → Calmette Bridge → Trần Hưng Đạo → Lê Lợi → Pasteur → Lý Tự Trọng → Tôn Đức Thắng.

From 6.45pm to 10pm vehicles are banned on the section of Lê Thánh Tôn Street from Đồng Khởi Street to Pasteur Street to enable a light show by the 10 member countries in the vicinity of the People’s Committee building.

Similar shows will be held simultaneously in four other cities in the country -- Hà Nội, Hải Phòng, Đà Nẵng, and Cần Thơ -- as well as in other ASEAN member countries. — VNS
