HÀ NỘI — The first tropical storm to hit East Sea this year, which formed 450km south of Hoàng Sa (Paracel) archipelago on Sunday afternoon, will weaken on Tuesday after making a landfall on China.

The latest forecast issued by the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said the storm would weaken into a low-pressure system on Tuesday morning after it hits China’s Quangdong Province.

By 10am on Monday, the storm was 230km southeast of Hong Kong, with wind speed near its eye reaching 75 to 90km per hour, the centre said. The storm is moving north-northwest at 15 to 20km per hour.

The storm will bring torrential rains, thunderstorms and strong winds to the southern part of East Sea, the sea from Ninh Thuận Province to Cà Mau Province, and from Cà Mau Province to Kiên Giang Province during the next 24 hours. — VNS
