BÌNH THUẬN — The National Committee of Search and Rescue on Sunday urged authorities to rescue a foreign vessel stranded near Phú Quý Island off the south-central coastal province of Bình Thuận.
The committee requested collaboration between the province’s People’s Committee, border guard command, port authority and the island’s border gate station in communicating with and rescuing the vessel.
The province’s environmental department was requested to watch out for any oil spills during the rescue. The information station of the province’s capital city of Phan Thiết was responsible for calling for support from vessels and ships within the area.
Vessel Chemroad Journey, flying a Cayman Islands flag, was stranded some 52km to the south of the island, when it was travelling from Singapore to China with 27 crew members on board.
The 20,100-tonne vessel, was carrying some 1,800 tonnes of oil, had tilted 15 degrees to the left.
The High Sea Transport Agency Company headquartered in HCM City was assigned by the vessel’s owner — the Cobalt Blue Shipping S.A, headquartered in the Republic of Panama — to approach and rescue the vessel and its crew, according to the Thanh Niên (Young People) newspaper. — VNS
