HÀ NỘI –—Throughout the country, especially northern region and a number of central provinces from Thanh Hoá to Thừa Thiên-Huế, rainfall of varying degrees is expected today, along with thunderstorms, hailstorms and powerful gusts.
The phenomenon is caused by a low trough right over the northern region, which continues to be pushed by a continental high pressure originating in China, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting said.
The northwestern region will be cloudy, with high chances of rainfall throughout the day. At night, showers and thunderstorms may occur. The lowest temperature is 20-23 degrees Celsius while the highest is expected to reach 27-30 degrees Celsius, and humidity stays between 65 and 98 per cent.
The same pattern of weather is expected in the northeastern region; however, the highest temperature will only reach 26-29 degrees Celsius.
From today to May 17, the Central Highlands and southern areas may also witness showers and scattered thunderstorms that may be accompanied by hail and gusts. The lowest temperature is expected to be some 24 degrees Celsius degrees while the highest may reach 30-33 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, close to the East Sea (including the Paracel and Spratly archipelagos), especially in areas from the Bình Định to Cà Mau provinces, warnings on thunderstorms and possible cyclones have been issued.—VNS
