Police seize rhino horns hidden in toy boxes

An unidentified 20-year-old Vietnamese man was caught smuggling 1.5 kilos of rhino horn worth VNĐ2 billion (US$87,890) on a flight from Africa to Việt Nam on Monday.

HCM CITY  An unidentified 20-year-old Vietnamese man was caught smuggling 1.5 kilos of rhino horn worth VNĐ2 billion (US$87,890) on a flight from Africa to Việt Nam on Monday.

According to customs officials at HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport, three pieces of rare Diceros birconis rhino horn were carefully hidden in his personal luggage and toy boxes.

The man was taken in for questioning.

In April, officials at the airport uncovered two smuggling cases, one of which involved five kilos of rhino horn and the other four kilos of ivory and pangolin scales, transported from Africa to Việt Nam.   VNS
