HÀ NỘI — At least 98 people were killed and 90 injured in traffic accidents throughout the country during the holiday between April 29 and May 2, according to the National Committee on Traffic Safety.

Four people were killed at midnight Sunday and one was injured in the Mekong Delta Đồng Tháp Province when two motorbikes collided head on in Mỹ An Hưng A Commune.

The committee also said traffic jams were recorded in many places, especially in downtown Hà Nội, Đà Nẵng and HCM City on April 30, as people celebrated National Reunification Day.

On May 1, traffic congestion were reported in some areas of Bình Dương Province and the Mekong Delta Tiền Giang Province. Traffic was also congested in Hải Phòng, Thanh Hóa and a toll station of Hà Nội’s Pháp Vân-Cầu Giẽ Expressway because of the high number of vehicles, the committee said.

Nguyễn Trọng Thái, chief of the national committee’s office, said its hotline had received 25 calls and messages complaining of increased prices of bus tickets, coaches carrying more passengers than permitted, and traffic congestions. The committee ordered relevant agencies to look into the complaints and deal with violators, he said.— VNS
