HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has approved the widening of Trường Chinh and Tân Kỳ Tân Quý streets in Tân Phú and Tân Bình districts to ease traffic congestion.

A 765m stretch of Trường Chinh Street between Cộng Hòa and Âu Cơ streets will be expanded from around 12m to 30m.

A 645m section of Tân Kỳ Tân Quý between Cộng Hòa Street and Lê Trọng Tấn Street will be widened from 8m to 30m.

The works are estimated to cost VNĐ2.61 trillion (US$114.47 million).

According to the city Department of Transport, the Management Authority for Urban Traffic No 1 will manage them.

Since there are many houses on the two streets, compensation payments are expected to top 2.23 trillion ($97.81million).

When 40 per cent of the land is acquired and cleared, likely next year, the work will start. — VNS
