HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Committee has called on departments and agencies to work together to penalise owners of construction projects that violate regulations on construction.

Violators will not be allowed to conduct business in their buildings until they amend their wrongdoings and pay a fine.

The city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment will also stop issuing land-use certificates and ownership certificates for houses and land-based properties found in violation of construction regulations.

The people’s committees of the city’s wards and communes will be allowed to either suspend buildings that violate building norms or demolish them, under assignment from the chief inspector of the Construction Department.

The city has also urged its Public Security Department to stop transportation of materials and workers to unauthorised building sites.

According to reports from 37 of the country’s 63 provinces and cities, the number of construction projects conducted without permits rose to 4.84 per cent last year, compared to 3.7 per cent in 2015. — VNS
