HÀ NỘI  The National Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety will conduct a food safety action month from April 15 to May 15 to ensure that citizens produce, trade and consume safe food and liquor.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the Việt Nam Food Administration, which is under the health ministry.

The action month aims to educate organisations and individuals about regulations on food safety and reduce the risks caused by unsafe liquor, vegetables, meat and seafood.

During this period, six inspection teams will be formed to conduct food safety checks in 12 provinces and cities. The inspectors will be officials from the health, agriculture and rural development and industry and trade ministries, as well as other related agencies.

Besides these inspection teams, local authorities will also conduct surprise checks in other provinces and cities.

With the action month, the ministry hopes to increase the sense of responsibility of authorities at different levels, and create awareness among traders and consumers in ensuring that food and, especially, liquor is safe for consumption.  VNS
