HÀ NỘI — The website of HCM City’s Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport, tansonnhatairport.vn, was hacked late Wednesday, with many people reporting they were unable to log on at about 10:45 pm.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Việt Nam (CAAV) said on Thursday that it was not a normal attack since “the hacker did not steal or delete any data in the system.”
The hacker left a message in red saying he had found the website’s protection system was weak and then carried out an attack to warn the cyber security staff of the flaw.
The website was restored at around 10am on Thursday, the CAAV said, adding that operations of Tân Sơn Nhất Airport were not affected by the incident.
This was not the first time Việt Nam’s aviation industry had been hacked. On July 29, 2016, Vietnam Airlines computers at the check-in areas of Tân Sơn Nhất and Hà Nội’s Nội Bài airports were hacked, delaying more than 10 flights with some 2,000 passengers. — VNS
