BÌNH ĐỊNH – Central Bình Định Province will invest more than VNĐ392 billion (US$17.1 million) to continue implementing a programme on clearing post-war bombs, mines and explosives in four affected areas in the province.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Văn Hùng, chief of the provincial Military Command’s Engineering Division, said the province would conduct its search of bombs, mines and explosives on an area of 10,800ha in Hoài Nhơn, Phù Cát, Hoài Ân districts and An Nhơn Township by 2020.

In 2016, the province cleared more than 2,200ha of land. As planned, the province would continue clearing some 2,300ha of land this year and next year, and 2,000ha more in 2019 and 2020.

The funds for the programme would be allocated from several sources – more than VNĐ176 billion ($7.7 million) from the State budget, VNĐ103 billion ($4.5 million) from the Official Development Assistance (ODA) and non-governmental organisations, and the rest from local budget, organisations and individuals.

So far, Bình Định has managed to clear more than 146,000 bombs, mines and explosives on some 1,400ha of land. – VNS
