HCM CITY – The HCM City People’s Committee has asked the Department of Transport to develop a plan for a new entrance at Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport.
The entrance is planned for the northern part of the airport, providing a link to Thống Nhất Street in Gò Vấp District.
It will connect to major streets, including Quang Trung, Lê Đức Thọ and Nguyễn Văn Lượng.
The construction will ease access to the airport for people living in northern districts, such as District 12, Hóc Môn and Củ Chi, and travellers from the Cửu Long (Mekong) Delta and south-eastern provinces.
It will also help ease traffic on Trường Sơn Street which serves as the airport’s only entrance.
The construction of another terminal and parking facilities will also be considered.
The city asked the department to submit the plan by March.
As a way to ease traffic to the airport, the Department of Transport began construction of two flyovers near the area on February 8.
One is being built at the Trường Sơn – Tân Sơn Nhất – Bình Lợi Ring Road intersection, while the other is located at the Nguyễn Thái Sơn – Nguyễn Kiệm intersection.
Construction is expected to take approximately 10 months. — VNS
