HÀ NỘI — The Government Inspectorate (GI) will this year conduct a series of crucial inspections, according to an official.

Ngô Văn Khánh, GI deputy chief, told Dân trí online newspaper on Wednesday that Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has approved the GI’s yearly inspection plan.

The inspections will include public land use, officials’ travelling abroad and official ranking in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The plan will focus on the use and management of land in some industrial and processing zones and new urban and key economic areas.

According to the official, the PM ordered the GI to carry out special work related to the use of public land in prime locations in large cities, including Hà Nội, HCM City, Đà Nẵng, Cần Thơ and Khánh Hòa Province.

The GI will inspect the land use of Việt Nam Rubber Corporation and Việt Nam Tea Corporation and Corporation of Forestry.

It also aims at close scrutiny on those lands which used to be for military or national security activities but now are instead being used for other purposes.

This year, a new point was mentioned according to which the GI would intensify its co-operation with ministries and sectors to limit to a minimum a case of overlapping and at the same time promote the efficiency of specialised inspections, Khánh said.

Unlike the previous year, the GI this year planned to specifically concentrate on environmental issues, the official added, saying the GI would closely co-operate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Construction to undertake comprehensive inspection on environmental protection in new urban areas, industrial and procession zones.

Khánh said inspection of the Samsung complex in northern mountainous Thái Nguyên Province would be of utmost priority since it was among the industrial establishments discharging a large amount of industrial waste, including hazardous waste into the environment.

The GI would focus on inspecting State-owned restructuring and equitisation in HCM City, the Ministry of Transport and its agencies.

The PM authorised the GI to work with the State Bank of Việt Nam to inspect crediting and financial investment in commercial banks with large bad debts.

The ministries of defence, public security and health will also be on the list of those entities to be inspected this year. — VNS
