HCM City – A suspect in January 12 killing of a 15-year-old girl in HCM City’s Gò Vấp District has been arrested.

The suspect, Nguyễn Phạm Quốc B, was born in 2001 and lives in Gò Vấp District.

On January 13, Nguyễn Thành Nhân, a security guard at the Hà Đô apartment building saw two men – Quốc B and a tricycle driver - carrying a box. He suspected they might be thieves and wanted to questioned the two, but they fled. The security guard found a woman’s body in the box and informed police.

Earlier, the girl’s family had informed police that she was missing.

One neighbour told police that she had seen B pick up the girl on his motorbike at about 7:30 in the evening on January 12.

Based on this information, police brought B in for questioning, but he only admitted that he and the girl had studied together in ninth grade at NVT secondary school, and said he had driven her to a night class and knew nothing else.

After leaving the police station, B went to a nearby market, bought a box and took it to Hà Đô apartments in order to hide the body. He then hired a tricycle driver and told him he was moving house and needed help.

But surveillance camera tape showed B leaving the apartment building. He was arrested and admitted to killing the girl in order to steal her mobile phone.

On the night of January 12, B texted the girl, H, and invited her to go out. The suspect took her out, tried to rob her and when she put up a fight, B took a stick and hit her until she died.

After that, B took H’s smartphone and VNĐ500,000 (US$23). – VNS
