Five workers of a private business specialising in aquatic product processing died due to suffocation under suspicious circumstances on Thursday in southern Phú Yên Province.

PHÚ YÊN — Five workers of a private business specialising in aquatic product processing died due to suffocation under suspicious circumstances on Thursday in southern Phú Yên Province.

Witnesses recalled that at 11am on Thursday, a worker of the Foodtech Joint Stock Company in Hòa Hiệp Industrial Park in Đông Hòa District went down to a salted fish storage cellar to collect samples for testing.

Ten minutes later, another worker went down to cut the power circuit and find the fellow worker but did not return.

Three other workers then went down to search for their colleagues and did not return.

The five deceased are Huỳnh Văn Nê, 22; Lê Thành, 30; Nguyễn Văn Vinh, 50; Lê Viết Nguyên, 36, all from Phú Yên Province; and SiRi Phong, 47, a Thai national.

Hundreds of workers are reportedly working for the Foodtech Joint Stock Company.
