QUẢNG NINH — Fire destroyed a furniture shop and damaged several houses in Quảng Ninh Province’s Mạo Khê Town late last night. There were fortunately no casualties.
The fire started at about 9.30pm at Tùng Hằng furniture shop. The flames quickly spread to at least four adjacent houses, a local witness said.
On being informed by residents, provincial firefighting and transport police forces deployed firefighters and three fire-trucks to the site. One hour later, the fire was completely extinguished.
“The fire destroyed all the property of the furniture shop,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Viết Tụ, from Quảng Ninh Province’s transport police office said.
The cause of fire was not clear, he said, adding that the investigation was underway.
According to latest news from the Đông Triều District Police, the damage from yesterday’s fire is estimated at VNĐ10 billion (US$ 447,500), including two cars.
The people’s committees of Quảng Ninh Province and Đông Triều have each supported the shop owner with VNĐ10 million. They also called on local residents to donate money to help affected households. — VNS
